God and Football: the Way of Life For Brazilians
Brazil is home to different ethnic origins. The Brazilian culture was largely shaped by the Portuguese Empirewhich they were a part of for over 300 years; other colonist nations such as Spain, Italy and Germany, and Africans who were brought as slaves by the colonial masters. As diverse as the country may seem, these two things unite them.
Religion
Brazil is home to a lot of diverse religious beliefs but with a population of 190 million people, 123 million are Catholics making them the largest Catholic country in the world. Catholicism is the official religion of Brazil and is formally institutionalized into their political and social system. Most of their bank holiday is based on the Catholicism.
Football
Futebol, as spelled in Brazil is the most popular sports in the country. Football, known as soccer in America is the very air Brazilians breathe to survive. To understand just how much this sport means to Brazilians as a people, watch how they reacted when their national team lost the semi-finals to Germany in the 2014 World Cup game.
